CEO, Very Good Security

Mahmoud Abdelkader is CEO and co-founder of Very Good Security (VGS), a company that allows startups and enterprises to preserve the functionality of their sensitive data (e.g. payment cards, SSNs, government IDs, etc.) without needing to possess the data in their own systems. A serial entrepreneur and skilled engineer, Mahmoud was CTO and co-founder of Balanced Payments (since acquired), one of the first ever payment facilitators for marketplaces. While building Balanced, Mahmoud realized how frustrating, time-consuming, and costly it was to properly secure sensitive data and maintain PCI compliance. Mahmoud founded VGS to realize his passion for helping entrepreneurs focus on their core businesses while democratizing access to best-in-class data security for companies of all sizes.
Prior to Balanced, Mahmoud designed automated product matching systems at Milo.com (acquired by eBay) and built high-frequency trading systems for Wachovia Securities (now Wells Fargo).

    There are many difficult and important decisions that a software company must make when deciding to becoming a payment facilitator. During this 3 part session, we’ll review the entire PF ecosystem and detail each of these major decisions. During this first part we’ll look at how a transaction is handled at the POS, as well as how the transaction data is secured, culminating with a discussion around using a stand-alone gateway versus an integrated gateway.
